How to care for your new chainmail

All Haubergier chainmail is made from stainless steel, which is popular for both its appearance and durability. Being corrosion and tarnish-resistant, it’s ideal for everyday wear, but may still require some maintenance. Here is a simple but effective method to maintain the look of your new piece.

You’ll need the following:

  • A soft cloth

  • Warm, soapy water (use mild dish soap or baking soda)

  • A soft-bristled toothbrush

  • Lukewarm water, for rinsing

  • A lint-free cloth

  • A soft towel

How to clean your chainmail, step by step:

  1. Wipe your jewelry. Use the soft cloth to gently wipe away any dirt or dust that may be on the surface of your jewelry.

  2. Prepare the solution. Mix some mild dish soap or baking soda into warm water.

  3. Clean with a soft brush. Dip the toothbrush in the solution and gently scrub your chainmail jewelry in circular motions.

  4. Rinse. Rinse your now-clean jewelry with lukewarm water, making sure there is no remaining soapy residue. Avoid using hot water as this can damage certain components.

  5. Dry your jewelry. Pat dry using a lint-free cloth or soft towel, ensuring no moisture remains on your piece. Be extra meticulous in this step, so no water spots remain in any crevices or hard-to-reach places.

If your piece is damaged, repairs (and resizing) are always free.
